NON-SURGICAL FACIAL SCULPTING:

Developed with safety and longevity in mind, Radiesse is a new generation injectable filler that offers superior versatility for cosmetic use without surgery.  Radiesse is a safe, FDA-approved non-surgical facial contouring filler that delivers an immediate, longer lasting result.

Radiesse is made of very tiny, smooth, calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in an aqueous gel. Each component of Radiesse has been studied and used extensively in implants for many years. The microspheres (particles) form a scaffold through which your body's own collagen grows, resulting in tissue expansion and anchoring in a consistency similar to that of the surrounding tissue producing the desired long-term effect. Over time, the Radiesse microspheres are integrated into the surrounding soft tissue and naturally conform without reaction or migration. Because the Radiesse microspheres become integrated into the new collagen and soft tissue, they essentially are anchored into place and thus prevent movement.

These unique advantages make Radiesse the ideal choice for facial shaping and contouring. Radiesse is considered a longer-lasting agent than collagen or hyaluronic acid, with correction durations of up to two years. Radiesse is ideal for deeper applications like cheek folds, 'marionette lines', and corners of the mouth. Radiesse can also successfully be used in facial contouring of the cheekbones and jaw line and may have profound effects on the overall appearance of the aging face. Radiesse is also quite effective in rejuvenation of aging hands by creating volume and restoring a more youthful appearance. Radiesse has both tissue-expanding and collagen producing properties. These properties elicit a triple effect: filling, lifting, and pulling when compared with other facial fillers. By restoring structural support and fullness to these areas, the shadowing effect typically associated with the aging cheek can be diminished, resulting in a more youthful appearance. These effects last an average of 1 1/2 to 2 years.

Sculptra is used for cosmetic purposes such as filling out the cheeks, the hollows under the eyes, the marionette line areas around the mouth, and other areas that have lost fat with aging or trauma. Sculptra has been used in over 35 countries in Europe and Mexico since 1998. Sculptra may be used to restore volume to the sunken parts of the face: filling in the hollow under the eyes, heightening cheekbones, re-shaping and re-supporting the mouth, chin, and neck. Sculptra's use is similar to fat transfer injections to the face without the 2-3 weeks of the swelling, the bruising, or the pain. The FDA has approved Sculptra's use in the United States for correction of the signs of facial fat loss in people with human immunodeficiency virus. Because Sculptra has qualities that make it unique when compared to other available facial fillers, Sculptra has been used extensively throughout the United States for cosmetic purposes while awaiting FDA approval for this indication. Worldwide, more than 200,000 thousand patients have been successfully treated with Sculptra.

Sculptra is comprised of polylactic acid, a simple synthesized sugar that, once injected into an area, stimulates the production of collagen.  By itself, Sculptra does not provide the filling action. Sculptra is digested by the skin and is gone within two years after treatment but the new collagen layer which is left behind will last for up to three years.

Sculptra works best for areas with pronounced loss of subcutaneous fat associated with the aging process. The loss of volume with aging has often been treated with surgical 'pulling back', but Sculptra restores volume loss with a simple in-office 30 minute procedure. A series of treatments is required to achieve adequate filling for most skin defects. Patients may need anywhere from two to six treatments at four to six week intervals to achieve the best result. Afterwards, single treatments every one to three years appear to 'keep up' with the natural loss of tissue volume due to aging.

How is the Procedure Done?

Sculptra is injected directly into the subcutaneous areas that need volume replacement. An anesthetic is mixed with the Sculptra just before the injections are started. Each treatment takes fifteen to thirty minutes and procedures are usually done four to six weeks apart. The exact number of sessions to achieve maximal correction depends on the depth of the original deficit and the “volume” loss prior to treatment. Sculptra can be used to augment as well as fill. It can build out one’s chin or fill in large areas of depressed acne scars. Sculptra can restore the volume time steals.

Is Sculptra/Polylactic Acid Safe?

Sculptra (polylactic acid) is extremely safe. It is a simple sugar with a long history of use in cosmetic procedures. With time, Sculptra is biodegraded to lactic acid, a normal by-product of the body’s metabolism. In sixty years of use, there have been no reported allergic reactions. When placed superficially, transient nodules may occur, sometimes even several months after treatment. They are usually not visible, but can be felt when they occur. This is an uncommon reaction, but goes away with time.

What Happens After the Procedure?

There is some swelling and occasionally bruising afterwards from the volume injected, so ice packs may be applied. Usually you can return to work immediately. The treated areas may be a little sore for a few days and need to be massaged daily for the first week after treatment.
