Often referred to as “face lift in a bottle”, Sculptra is a long-lasting, clinically proven treatment that can smooth deep lines and wrinkles and restore facial volume lost to the body’s natural aging process. Sculptra® is the first of a new category of products that replaces lost volume by stimulating your own new collagen production rather than by directly filling.
Initially used to treat the sunken faces of people with chronic disease, Sculptra® was quickly adopted by cosmetic dermatologists. Derived from fruit acids, Sculptra is an injectable material known as poly-L-lactic acid. It is a sugar-based molecule that has been used for decades in the form of absorbable sutures.
Sculptra® treatment is planned as several injection sessions each spaced about a month apart. A Sculptra® session begins with a thorough skin cleansing using either alcohol or surgical scrub. Anesthetic injections are typically not required because anesthetic is added to the material during the reconstitution process. The patient is usually positioned in an upright, seated position as the material is injected. Following the injection, there is usually minimal discomfort or bruising.
One unique aspect of Sculptra® injections is that immediately following the procedure, the treated area looks great. Over the next few days, as the water and lidocaine used to mix the material get absorbed, the areas begin to look as if nothing had been injected. After about the third week, the body begins to make collagen as wrinkles and creases begin to fade. With each additional Sculptra® treatment, the improvement becomes more noticeable. The improvement is gradual and gives you an entirely natural looking fuller face. Average Sculptra® treatments require three or four sessions and last for several years, significantly longer than the majority of the other injectable treatments. When measured on a cost-per-month basis, Sculptra® is often more cost effective than treatments lasting a few months.
Sculptra allows Dr. Schwartz to literally “sculpt” your face by restoring its natural contours and smoothing out wrinkles, creases and folds. The use of Sculptra is restricted by the company. Only skin specialists such as Dermatologists and Plastic Surgeons are allowed to inject Sculptra and only after appropriate training. Dr. Schwartz is currently the only physician in Vermont who is allowed to inject Sculptra.
Please remember that the experience and technique of the physician injecting these fillers is the most critical part of your achieving a beautiful, natural result.
