Dorset Street Dermatology is proud to introduce the first Sciton Broadband Light™ device to Vermont. Broadband Light (BBL) is an innovative technology that sets new standards for treatment of skin conditions associated with aging, active life-styles, and sun damage. BBL energy allows us to precisely treat age and sun spots, small facial veins, rosacea, freckles, and acne. Your treatment will be tailored to match your skin type and your desired results.
Similar to Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), BBL produces a light within the visible spectrum. However, BBL encompasses a broader wavelength spectrum than IPL and can treat a wider range of cosmetic concerns. Broadband light is attracted by many different structures in the skin, including melanin and hemoglobin. By selecting the appropriate wavelength or filter we will use this energy to target the fine blood vessels and unwanted pigmentation. That same energy also creates new collagen in the dermis which results in improvement to aging, sagging skin.
What conditions can be treated with BBL?
Any area of your body can be treated. The most common areas are those most exposed to the damaging effects of sunlight. The most popular treatments are for the face, neck, upper chest, back of the hands, arms, and legs.
On average, three to four treatments spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart are necessary to give the best results. We can often combine your treatment with other cosmetic procedures to further enhance the effects.
BBL® treatment is gentle, non-invasive, and safe. Topical anesthesia is optional but is not required, and there is virtually no down-time.
You may experience some redness that should resolve within a few hours. Because the top layer of skin is left intact, you can immediately return to work. Makeup can be applied right away. It is important to avoid direct sun exposure throughout the treatment period. For some pigmented lesions you will see a darkening of the treated areas followed by fading and flaking off over the next week. Your treated skin will feel smoother, fine lines and pores will be less noticeable, and sunspots or uneven pigmentation will fade.
